A non social media app I actually use
I recently downloaded an app called Stylebook, the app has been all over social media especially on Pinterest so thought I would check it out. The reviews were great for the app and it only cost $3.99 less then a coffee so I took the plunge and purchased it.
Positives points about the app
- It was eye opening to go through and see what I had – I had items I forgot I loved I also had items that I ended up putting on Poshmark
- It’s easy to snap the photos and upload
- If you prepare in advance you can photograph your clothes rather quickly
- It allows you the ability to shop through the app very helpful if your trying to figure out what you might need in your wardrobe
- If you are thinking about or working on a capsule wardrobe this is a GREAT tool for you and will help you build it out – this is what I’m using it for
- It also is a great catalog for your items so if you should have a fire/loss/theft or something of that nature you’ve essentially cataloged your belongings
- It allows you to upload jewelry, shoes, scarves etc. so not just your clothes
- It does make getting dressed easier you can plan out your weekly wardrobe
Negatives about the app
- Their are quite a few clicks to add one piece of clothing while it’s easy they could reduce the number and that would save time
- If you have more than 100 items plan on paying someone to do this for you or plan to invest at a minimum of 4 hours to take the photos, upload them and additional time to create the “looks”
- You have to create your own “looks” for the most part
- You essentially cannot do this without various backdrops, I went to a fabric store and bought orange, black, white, yellow material so I could get the photos to contrast enough I could use them
- If you have any Camouflauge colored items it will be a challenge to get a good photo even if you manually manipulate the background
- Once it’s done it’s not really done you will need to keep it up by adding any new items and creating new looks
- It would be really ideal if you could upload the clothes from the store rather then taking every piece out of your closet, but I couldn’t find that as a solution on the app
Final thoughts
Most people wear only 20% of what is in their wardrobe so the other 80% just hangs there. If you decide to move forward with this I recommend you go through and sort your items into (Keep/Sell/Donate/Toss) and then once done with that upload what is left over. Now that you know the pros and cons I hope it helps you decide if it’s worth the investment.
XOXO
