I can’t believe how much costume jewelry I’ve thrown away or donated because regular jewelry cleaner didn’t work to clean it! I also struggled with my silver tarnishing super fast regardless of how I store it. Thank goodness for youtube….I finally found a recipe that actually works to make your jewelry look new again, it’s chemical free, and you should have all of the items needed in your kitchen!
Give this quick solution a try. Here are the things you’ll need:
- Glass dish (pie plate, glass bowel anything glass will work)
- Tin foil – line the glass dish with it
- 1 cup boiling hot water
- 1 Tablespoon table salt
- 1 Tablespoon baking soda
Put the tin foil on the bottom of the glass dish, pour the salt and baking soda onto the tinfoil then pour the boiling hot water. Mix the solution until everything is dissolved. Once you’ve done that put the jewelry you want to clean in the solution and watch it get clean. Don’t be alarmed it will start to fizz up thats ok. Take the jewelry out of the solution and run under cold water and then dry and wear.
I typically leave the jewelry in the solution for about 10 minutes if it’s bad. Since I let mine get really bad the first time I actually had to do the mixture twice to get them completely clean so depending on how bad the jewelry is the first time might require more time/work.
Happy Organizing and Cleaning!
